This study aid is a must for all social care workers - due to new regulations based on the National Occupational Standards (NOS) within the Social care sector in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Legislation now requires all social care staff to hold a Health and Social Care qualification, with the NVQ Health and Social Care being the most widely recognised. The aim is to have all people who work within the social care sector registered on the Social Care Register.
The Social Care Register explained
The Social Care Register is a register of people who work in social care, and have been assessed as trained and fit to be in the workforce, this can only be achieved if you have been registered (and working towards) or completed a NVQ Health and Social Care Level 2, 3 or 4.

"I incorporated the performance criteria and knowledge specifications answers into one reflective account, at the advice of my NVQ assessor. I found that the knowledge specification questions, were more often than not a replication of the performance criteria questions, so I just added a few examples or comments into the performance criteria questions to cover the slight difference. This saved me a lot of time and reduced the duplication of work.
I submitted any relevant training certificates as evidence, as read through the PC and KS and matched my learning outcomes from the course to the questions. I wrote them on the back of the photocopy of the certificate. This covers a lot of the PC and KS and is an invaluable piece of evidence, which sometimes can be used in more than one unit.
I also, whilst during my normal shifts – asked colleagues to write me up expert witness testimonies or witness testimonies – these can also cover a lot of the PC and KS for each unit. E.g. communication, health and safety, moving and handling, administration of medication etc.
I asked my assessor to sit on for an observation on my monthly supervision with my manager – this was very useful and could be evidence for many units. Try to ensure that you discuss as many relevant topics in your supervision as you can e.g. child protection, health and safety, etc.
I did my whole NVQ this way and completed it in 10 weeks. I found that a lot of my work could be used as evidence for more than one unit ".
Good luck with your NVQ.
